1ST Quarter_Week 7_Discussion Question

What important take away did I learn in this lesson?

In this lesson, I learned about how adolescents’ social life and self-development depend hugely on the influence of the significant people that surround them. These people fall into four categories: family, friends, teachers, and community leaders.

Family is considered the most important influential people in our life. They give us our basic needs and supply us with endless love, care, and attention. They guide us so that we can learn to take care of ourselves. Not only that, but they also prepare us to learn the basic concepts of socialization. Parents teach us about the importance of having a relationship, while our siblings give us the first idea on how to cooperate and interact with other people. With this, we will have a system of beliefs, traditions, culture, and values that we can use in meeting new people.

After family, our friends are the next ones to have a great deal of influence on us. It is crucial to find a friend that can trust and respect you the same way you would trust and respect them. Having a bad friend can negatively affect your life as they can cause huge shifts in your thinking and emotions. This is why finding friends who will stick with you no matter what happens is important. They will give you empathy, relatability, support, and advice that your family can’t give you. They are like our extended siblings that will help us learn how to value relationships and will help us develop even more people skills necessary in life.

Next are our teachers. They are considered as our second parents. They teach us the academic skills that we will use in our future career of choice. Not only that, but they also nurture us to love learning. With their help, we can mold ourselves into getting better than before.

Lastly, community leaders serve as the inspiration of the youth to reach out to other people who are in need. They give us the motivation to have involvement and a sense of responsibility when it comes to the community. This will give us the skills necessary so that we will be able to blend in easily in our society when we become adults.
