1ST Quarter_Week 8_Reflection
SCORE: 19/20
What is/are the lesson/s you have learned in the lives if Apple and Kevin? By knowing their lives and the things they have been through, was it able to impact your life?
Kevin and Apple’s life stories are good motivational stories
for the people who are suffering the same problems that they faced. They didn’t
give up, and they chose to pursue God’s will so that they can overcome their
burdens. They used God as a support for their worries, and with this, they
remained strong. In return for their faith, God gave them unconditional love
and support. As the years of devotion continues, their darkest moments has
become a thing of the past. From this, I have learned that the power of faith
transcends all. As long as a person believes in something (may it be God, a
special someone, or even one’s own self), this belief will turn into something
good. Their life stories have become an inspiration to the people with whom
they shared it with.
However, to share these beliefs that they have, they have
brushed off many things and kept while looking and retelling their stories
through a very narrow lens. It is not bad to believe in something as long as it
gives them peace of mind but to exclude all the other factors that helped them
succeeded is something else (just like how Apple’s celibacy of 5 years has
relieved most symptoms of her disease). They kept saying that it was all part
of God’s will. That is very far from the truth. God wasn’t the cause of Apple’s
HIV. She is. They kept throwing around His name like an excuse.
In Kevin’s case, he demonized atheism as something
destructive. He believes that the cause of his depression was his atheism. He,
just like Apple, came to this conclusion without considering other factors that
may have caused it. Correlation and causation are two different things. Kevin
is an atheist. He is also depressed. This doesn’t mean that his atheism was the
cause of his depression.
Spreading all these sorts of misconceptions with premature
conclusions only serves to fool other people into agreeing with their beliefs.
These are the reasons why evangelists don’t affect my belief. Instead, it only
makes my stand even stronger.
From their stories, I have learned that we must not abuse
the name of God when it comes to sharing one’s own beliefs. I have also learned
not to come to conclusions without considering all the other factors first. In
short, their life stories have affected me in no way whatsoever. I’ll remain true
to my belief of facts and logic as I will not use “testimonies” as proof. It’s
going to take way more than that.
